Paradigm Farms
Rare Breeds
Welcome to Paradigm Farms.

Born of a love of animals and their genetics, ecology, welfare, health & husbandry, Paradigm Farms is about showcasing the productivity and benefits of heritage breeds of livestock. These breeds are so much better suited to Regenerative Agriculture, a way of living and farming focused on improving the ecology of the land with low inputs, healthy soils and an improved way of life for both farmer and animal.

The focus at the Farm is improving animal welfare and production, through selecting breeds of animals that offer increased returns and production whilst improving the welfare for animals and handlers alike with traits such as small size, good temperament and reduced need for management procedures such as tail docking, dehorning and assisted births.

Dexter Cattle are an ancient Irish breed and a naturally small, not miniaturised, dual-purpose breed producing excellent quality beef and milk. They were bred to be hardy and are good foragers, with excellent fertility and calving ease. Well-loved as house cows since the 1800's they are also famous for their quality, marbled beef- frequently beating the bigger breeds in Carcase Competitions in Australia. They form the basis of the farm and are managed in a way that mimics the natural grazing pattern of large herbivores on grasslands, complemented by the rare breeds of sheep, goats and poultry that share their home.
